DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN AEB EXPLORER

Aircraft Marshallers ensure safety on AirVenture taxiways, guiding aircraft movements and enhancing the experience.

No two days are the same.
But here’s a pretty accurate runway map.

5:00 AM – Reveille (Technically)

Wake up to Civil Air Patrol reveille bugle.

5:10 AM – Strategic Retreat

Go back to sleep.

7:00 AM – Aircraft Alarm Clock

Jets. Bonanzas. T-6s roaring down Runway 9/27.

7:10 AM – One More Snooze

Go back to sleep.

7:30 AM – Reality Sets In

It’s too hot in the tent.
You’re up.

Breakfast. Hydration. Sunscreen.
Hang out with friends. Swap yesterday’s stories.

Morning Shifts Begin

Most first shifts start at 8:00 AM or 11:00 AM.
Some Explorers have one shift. Some have two.
Each shift runs 2–3 hours.

Every Explorer serves at least once a day.

You might be:

  • Parking homebuilt airplanes

  • Working North 40

  • Counting planes

  • Air Marshalling Training

From 3:00–6:00 PM the flightline pauses for the daily airshow.
Yes, that means you get to watch it.

Midday at AirVenture

When you’re not on shift:

Explore the grounds.
Attend ground school classes.
Watch the airshow.
Visit the Fly Market.
Walk through College Row.
Check out aircraft on the ground and in the air.

Important note:
If you buy a drone… flying it in Oshkosh airspace is not happening.

Fuel Stops

Lunch: 11:00 AM–1:00 PM
Dinner: 5:00–7:00 PM

Hydrate early. Hydrate often.

The airport closes to incoming and departing traffic during airshows — which means you’re witnessing aviation at its biggest stage.

Evening Shifts

Some Explorers return to the flightline from 6:00–8:00 PM.

Golden hour on the taxiway hits differently.

Post-Shift Reality Check

If you return to camp smelling like jet fuel and sweat…
showers are appreciated by your fellow Explorers.

If you don’t smell like sweat, jet fuel is an acceptable aroma.

8:00–10:00 PM – Camp Life

Movies under the big tent.
Games with friends.
Laughing way too hard at inside jokes.

10:00 PM – Everyone in Camp

11:00 PM – Lights Out

Final Approach

No day is exactly the same.

Some shifts are calm.
Some are nonstop motion.
Some moments feel ordinary — until you realize you just helped park an airplane flown in from across the country.

Follow the rhythm.
Have fun.
Be safe.

And do it all again tomorrow.
