Flightline

Step on to the flightline at AirVenture and be a part of the world's busiest airport.

WHAT YOU'LL DO ON THE FLIGHTLINE

AEB volunteers support flightline operations and safe aircraft ground movement across the AirVenture grounds. Key areas for our volunteer service are Homebuilt Aircraft Parking and North 40 Flightline Operations.   All participants must watch the 2026 Flightline Training Video. It will be updated and available for completion in May.

And yes, we know that none of the links below for the trainings and quiz are working.

FLIGHTLINE OPPORTUNITIES

Aircraft Marshallers ensure safety on AirVenture taxiways, guiding aircraft movements and enhancing the experience.

HOMEBUILT PARKING

Homebuilt aircraft are not only a key focus for EAA AirVenture, but also for the Aviation Exploration Base. Thousands of volunteer service hours are dedicated to managing the parking and traffic flow for the Homebuilt Aircraft area. Explorers assist with parking aircraft and ensure crowd safety at busy taxiway intersections and parking areas. Explorers may also learn how to marshal aircraft.

POINT/AIR MARSHALING

Point, or Aircraft Marshaling, is an essential service at AirVenture. Aircraft marshallers help manage aircraft movement and ground traffic on active taxiways. To qualify, Explorers and Advisors must be at least 18, have attended the Aviation Exploration Base for two years, complete the Point Checklist with an advisor's signature, and express interest during registration.

PLANE COUNTING

Every show, AEB members collaborate with the FAA air traffic controllers to count takeoffs and landings on runway 18/36. This service involves being directly adjacent to the runway and paying close attention to aircraft characteristics. Due to EAA regulations, only volunteers aged 18 and older will be scheduled for this area. Volunteering for this opportunity can be done alongside your regular shift.

NORTH 40 FLIGHTLINE OPS

Flight Line Ops (FLO), also known as North 40 operations, is located at the northern end of the AirVenture grounds. Volunteers play a crucial role in directing traffic and parking powered aircraft on taxiways. To volunteer in the North 40, Explorers must be at least 16 years old and have completed one year of prior volunteering experience at the Aviation Exploration Base.
